The Geneva Golf Club was established in 1922 with the support of civil servants working at the Society of Nations. lts beginnings were humble: the Club rented its first course in the village of Onex, with a shack doubling as a clubhouse.
After the Second World War, several shrewd club members set up a fund in order to pur- chase plots of land, which allowed the Club gradually to acquire a considerable amount of property. The farsightedness of this approach became apparent when the Club had
to move. ln 1972, encouraged by its President, Pierre Turrettini, the Club became the owner of the magnificent Bessinge estate, and commissioned Robert Trent Jones Sr. to design the new course.
Between 2016 and 2018 the course underwent a complete renovation under the guid- ance of Robert Trent Jones Jr. The training facilities were also upgraded in 2019 with the creation of a short game practice area of 6000 square meters.
The Geneva Golf Club has also made its mark on Swiss golf. Throughout its 94-year his- tory, the Club has counted many national champions either in individual or team play as well as junior, ladies and senior championships.
We are particularly proud to have often fielded players in European and World Amateur championships. As such, the club successfully organized the 1982 ladies World Ama- teur Championship and also hosts the Rolex Trophy since 1975 that has since become one of the European Challenge Tour’s season highlights.
